The Community Alliance for Education and Hunger Relief is a partnership of many institutions and organizations. As partners, we combine our assets and strengths to increase the amount of fresh fruit and vegetables available to hunger relief organizations. In the process, we provide formal and informal educational opportunities to the community regarding large-scale food production.

We are currently taking a break from our ‘snack chat’ series. Tune in here later in the spring for more updates!

‘Snack Chat’ is our volunteer appreciation/education series. Join us for engaging events about a variety of educational topics and a chance to connect with other volunteers and members of the community in a casual setting at Western Colorado Research Center.

“What the Hemp?”

On Tuesday, February 25, volunteers and partners gathered to learn about the ongoing hemp experiment at the Orchard Mesa Research Station and Fruita Research Station. Adam Wright, a Research Associate at WCRC, led an engaging presentation that covered topics like the differences between hemp and cannabis, the history of hemp research, current trends in hemp growing, and the economic impacts of the hemp industry in Western Colorado.

After the presentation, the group took a tour of the indoor facility where the hemp experiment is underway. The group had a chance to look at the plants up close and do an informal Q&A with Wright.
